Wire cutters in the form of a pair of scissors is a fairly new development on the bonsai art, a variant essentially of the standard bonsai wire cutter. The main advantage of using the scissors type over the conventional bonsai wire cutter is that it is smaller and lighter. When you are working mainly with thinner wire it is more comfortable to handle these cutters for longer periods of time.
Some people mistakenly think wire cutters designed for bonsai use is unnecessary, a waste of money even, and instead use a normal electrical side cutter.
A fundamental difference between these purpose designed wire cutters and side cutters is the shape of the nose, which is very much more rounded. This is to ensure you do not damage the bark of the branch or trunk from which you are cutting wire. Electrical cutters have sharp tips and easily damage the cambium and may even cut branches unintentionally.
The blade pivot point being so close to the cutting edge provides enhanced mechanical cutting power; making it easier to cut thinner aluminium and copper wire. Electrical type wire cutters on the other hand require much greater effort as the cutting faces tend to be much thicker forcing the the user to almost crush the wire.
As with all our Kaneshin tools, these scissors type wire cutters are handmade by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen. Each tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
