Summer Workshop on Pines and Juniper

Summer for the pine bonsai enthusiast is another busy time. Spring candles and their needles have now developed and the trees, helped by fertilizer applied in spring, are full of energy. This is when decandling is required as it increases ramification to create a fuller canopy. Learn why and how to decandle your pines with Terry Erasmus to guide you.

After decandling it is important that you balance the energy of your tree and we do this by needle plucking. Help will be on hand to show you how to pluck needles and how to determine how many to remove and how many to keep.

Junipers can now also do with a cleanup to remove unwanted inner growth and you are also afforded another opportunity to style them lightly. Pines may also be wired and lightly styled at this time.

No other naturally occurring characteristic of juniper growth creates more visual appeal than shari and jin. As sap flow has now subsided after the spring push, now is a great time to add interest to your own trees by creating these features and Mark Polson, an award winning juniper enthusiast and I will show you how.

Its also a good time to do approach grafts on your junipers. So if you missed the time to do scion grafts earlier in the season you can now use the approach grafting technique with Mark on hand to guide you.

Don't miss this opportunity to really get ahead with your pines and junipers.
