Winter Juniper Workshop

Winter is the ideal time to style conifers, which includes Junipers. This species is now dormant and sap-flow at its lowest making it possible for us to shape them with the least amount of risk.

Juniper are very popular in South Africa but their styling possibilities have largely gone underutilized. With Mark Polson, an award winning juniper bonsai enthusiast and myself on hand to guide you, we will show you how to create juniper with massive interest. Small or large, bring your junipers so we can show you how you can shape them to achieve your vision.

No other naturally occurring characteristic of juniper growth creates more visual appeal than shari and jin. This is a great time to add interest to your own trees by creating these features and we will show you how.

Don't miss this opportunity to really get stuck into your juniper!

Course Outline

Participants will be guided on the following:

  1. how to wire your juniper using copper (or aluminium) wire.
  2. using raffia, branch jack, rebar, guy wires and more for more demanding bends

  4. creation of deadwood features such as jin and shari.
