Seizan Mitsue is a Tokoname-based ceramicist celebrated for the region’s long tradition of exceptional ceramics. Working from the Seizan kiln alongside her husband Kataoka Katsushi (Reiho), Mitsue creates containers for bonsai, ikebana and kusamono that balance beauty, function and form. This round, unglazed piece embodies that philosophy, measuring 145 x 82 mm and finished with a natural surface that highlights the raw clay beneath.

Her work is admired for elegant yet organic forms, subtle glaze techniques and dynamic application, as well as raw clay textures and a sensitivity to how a container supports the character of the tree or accent planting. Each piece reflects Tokoname’s heritage while offering a distinctive handmade quality. Seizan Mitsue containers are valued by bonsai artists and collectors around the world, and they are especially suited to dynamic bonsai displays where craftsmanship, proportion and understated detail are essential.
