Matching the container to the orchid
Different orchid genera have different root requirements. Epiphytes such as Angraecoids and Dendrobiums often thrive mounted or in open, slotted baskets with maximum airflow. Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilums generally prefer a clear or ceramic pot with a well-draining medium. Terrestrial species may benefit from a deeper, unglazed container that allows moisture to wick freely.
