Sarracenia moorei ‘Leah Wilkerson’ × leucophylla ‘Red Stripe Throat’
This special-import trumpet pitcher is a hybrid of Sarracenia moorei ‘Leah Wilkerson’, from Walton County, Florida, and Sarracenia leucophylla ‘Red Stripe Throat’. Sharing the parentage of ‘Painted Black’, it displays a lighter, greener appearance, with a broad red throat contrasting against green and white upper pitchers.
Distinctive features
- Pitchers (ascidia): Green with a slightly wider neck and a compact, balanced stature.
- Throat: A broad, intense red patch that remains red rather than darkening to black, even at full maturity.
- Lip (peristome): Pale, accentuating the vivid red throat and green-white upper pitcher.
- Lid (operculum): Lightly upturned, with white, window-like areolation and a light, open structure.
Origin and seasonal growth
Sarracenia originate from North America. This perennial hybrid is suited to temperate or continental conditions, with a winter dormancy period as part of its annual growth cycle.
Its compact habit and pronounced red throat make it a distinctive choice for collectors seeking strong colour contrast without the dark pigmentation of ‘Painted Black’.
