Wonderful product for airation in my substrate for my Lithops and succulent, promote good and quick drainage when watering my plants, do not have to worry about root rot. Great substrate!

I am a plant addict, and forever repotting plants and trying to root cuttings.If there is one product that is indispensable to my efforts it is perlite. It is an essential ingredient in the growing media and greatly increasses good drainage.

I use this as part of my custom mixes for my Carnivorous plants, great for drainage to prevent root rot!

So I purchased the Groperl after watching a youtube video on repotting a bonsai. Long story short I thought I would give Growperl a try. So far I couldnt be happier and more importantly my juniper looks very happy. Will definately use it again.

I bought Groper(Perlite) for my succulents that I mix with Pumice and the general soil mix from Bonsai tree. My succulents were struggling in my potting soil and river sand that I bought from my local nursery. Drainage was the biggest problem, that lead to root rot. Now that I re-potted them with the Bonsai tree combinations my succulents are much more happy. Even if I over water them they are still thriving because the drainage is much better.
The only concern with Perlite is that it is very light and floats to the top of the pot, But you can minimize this with mixing it with pumice and the general soil mix that makes it heavier.
It is also very useful for seedlings and cuttings for rapid root growth.

Nurseries in Johannesburg want to charge me as much as R150 for 5l of perlite, but here I can get it for R60? For such high quality, the choice is obvious. Versatile and useful for everything from seedling mix (perlite + peat + vermiculite) to rooting cuttings (perlite + vermiculite). Handy addition to any succulent soil also!

I purchased a bag as i found on the internet that it gets used for rooting cuttings. The problem I had was with cuttings I would first root in water, when transferring from water to growing medium the fine delicate roots would get damaged and eventually fall of, either killing the cutting or having to wait to develop from scratch. I have recently transferred 10 cottoneaster cuttings that have been rooted in water over to Groperl, and to date no die back or damaged roots. The Groperl is so light and fluffy it doesn't seem to exert and pressure on the roots. Some roots have already extended. I find it works great in a clear cup, so you can see the roots, and monitor the water in the bottom. The Groperl stays nice and moist as it absorbs the water. Look forward to final results.

Did my first mix for cuttings. So far so good. Mix is very light. As soon as you water it, is gets some substance. Looks like the cuttings are doing well. Will keep updated.

I used a mixture of GroPerl and river sand - as recommended by someone on the internet - to grow some cuttings of trees in my neighbourhood for possible bonsai material. It worked beautifully, with more than 50% of my cuttings taking root in less then 6 weeks! Excellent product, and at an excellent price!

After speaking to Terry about wanting to thicken up the trunk of 2 of my Japanese black pines, he suggested that I use LECA and GroPerl. So far the results have been nothing but spectacular.
I am using the colander method on both of them and after transplanting them into the LECA / Groperl mix, they have thrived and gone from strength to strength.
By mixing in a small amount of perlite into the LECA it assists with the mix holding sufficient moisture and there is no chance of it clogging up the medium. I believe one can grow JBP in pure perlite so I may just have to try that out.
