Overview

Utricularia bisquamata is an annual, carnivorous plant of the genus Utricularia native to southern Africa. The species can be found in Angola, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, and South Africa, growing in damp, sandy or peaty soils near streams and wetlands, up to 1,200m in elevation.

The delicate, carnivorous Utricularia bisquamata displays a small, narrow leaf base and thin, wiry racemes of one to several 2-lipped, irregularly-shaped flowers, whose upper lip is faint yellow and lower lip spurred and mauve-blue or white. The flowers form in August till March.

U. bisquamata genus has subterranean bladders which capture minute organisms to supply its nutrition.
