From Tokoname, Japan, a region celebrated for generations of ceramic mastery, Seizan Mitsue creates containers that balance beauty, function and form. This piece comes from the Seizan kiln, crafted in collaboration with her husband Kataoka Katsushi (Reiho). Each container is made to accompany bonsai, ikebana and kusamono, with an eye for how a vessel supports the character of the plant it holds.

The round form and unglazed surface reveal the raw clay’s texture and warmth, providing a neutral stage for the tree or accent planting. Measuring 100 x 65 mm, it is sized to complement mid-sized displays while maintaining a refined silhouette.

    Distinctive features:

    • Tokoname heritage: handmade in a region long renowned for its pottery, ensuring a distinctive, artisanal touch.
    • Round, unglazed finish: showcases natural clay textures and a restrained, versatile palette.
    • Proportioned for living art: crafted to harmonize with dynamic bonsai displays, with understated detail that won’t overpower the specimen.
    • Versatile for multiple display types: ideal for bonsai containers, ikebana vessels and kusamono accents in cohesive setups.

Seizan Mitsue containers are valued by bonsai artists and collectors around the world for their ability to honor a tree’s character while elevating the overall display. This piece reflects Tokoname’s heritage and offers a distinctive handmade charm that complements contemporary and traditional arrangements alike.
