Bonsai trees grow in very small containers with little growing medium for years, so your choice of medium is important.
This Professional Growing Medium contains Peatfor water retention and Leca(light expanded clay aggregate) for drainage. Fast drainage leads to enhanced root development. Roots are forced to grow in search for water. In so doing a fine network of feeder roots form. This network of fine roots, and not the thick storage roots are critical as they support refined, highly ramified bonsai trees.
Take care with watering as this mix may dry out quicker than what you are used to in summer. Mulch if necessary and after recently repotting using moss, pine bark or any other similar medium or you can add extra Peatfrom our Bonsai range.
As the mix is free draining, fertilizer is not retained. Use solid fertilizers. BonsaiBoostis a 100% plant organic, slow release fertilizer which works well with the Professional Mix.
30% Peat Moss
70% Leca
If you want to take your bonsai to the next level then I would encourage you to use a combination of Akadama and Pumice (Hyuga)
Love this soil, was able to repot all of my bonsai trees.
Want real world proof that Bonsai Tree's Professional Growing Medium is up there with the best mediums in the world? Look no further! Here's what exactly 4 weeks to the day in this mix looks like. Early spring repot of a shonin cotoneaster just coming out of winter (and looking a little sparse and unhappy) that had previously been growing in a mostly organic "garden soil" mix. Full of new spring growth, and laden with flower buds, this little tree could not be happier!
Wow! That is a big difference. I am so happy your cotoneaster is loving the growing medium. Its well on its way to being a stunning tree already and I look forward to seeing it again in the future.
I have used some of the medium for my two newly purchased Camellia Sasanquas and they seem very happy in it. Cannot wait for spring to start and then get repotting and maybe add some new bonsais to my collection making use of the medium. Have actually bought some more the past week and will collect it today.
It's amazing how ignorance styfles once growth, knowledge and development. Thank God for the internet, Terry and Bonsai Tree. I came to know the same and after chatting to Terry in person got to know about his Professional Growing Medium and offcourse purchased some towards the end last season and again resently to pot the early growers such as the Elms, malbury and Celtis species. The results and noticable difference in the trees I have used it on is huge. Better draining and nutrient absorption being the key attributes and difference. I would recommend it to anyone looking for better and healthy trees.
Love the consistency compared to other growing mediums, drainage is excellent. I am really happy with the purchase and will certainly do so again in future!
