I use a 1:1 Akadama:Pumice mixture for all my Hoyas, both to root cuttings and to replant adult plants in. I've not had a root rot issue of a day old; the drainage of this substrate is simply amazing.

Since using fine grain Japanese Akadama in combination with fine grain Pumice as substrate for my Haworthias, I have noticed a significant reduction in the occurrence of root pests and root rot. The plants look healthier and stronger in general. The Akadama component keeps the necessary moisture around the roots, while the pumice betters aeration to the roots. What I like most about Akadama is that it has a darker colour when wet. This serves as a great indication of when the plant needs to be watered or not, which makes my watering regimen significantly easier.

I mixed the Japanese Akadama and Pumice in 50:50 mix and potted up my lithop seedlings. So far they are doing great. This subrate is perfect when excellent drainage is required

As it is my first time using Acadama soil i did not know how to use it. A friend helped me with the Instructions. Just remember to not wash this soil. Leave it for at least 7 days before addjbg shrimp and you are good to go

I recently repotted most of my Bonsai trees in Akadama soil, mostly mixed with Pumice. This makes a huge difference and compared to previous years the early Spring growth is not comparable!

This might seems expensive for soil, but is definitely the most sustainable for a containerized environment. As you get the most root volume possible, no root voids caused by silica are gravel. Optimal water retention and drainage... you’ll be set for few years without being to worried about bonsai getting root bound. Treat yourself.

Used it on different Haworthia, Aloe pepe and Euphorbia monadenium ritchiei. Within week small roots formed. Within a months time the Haworthia tulista angel tears roots grew from no roots to about 12cm long. The colour of the plants in the Akadama went from "dull" to a bright green. I am trying it again on my cacti, placed it in bowl on the 25th of September. Will keep you up to date. Thank you very much.

This Akadama has a good particle size distribution. Slight passive decomposition, but may be due to shipping handling. Happy with purchase and will make it my go-to place for Akadama in SA
