    Leca as a substitute for gravel

    As a relatively new bonsai enthusiast(5yrs), i am still learning the trade.A few years back i hurt my back in a boating accident and find it hard to carry the bigger bonsais in their pots .I then decided to replace gravel and stone in my soil mixes with Leca which is much lighter and sofar it works well.

    This is consistent in size. If you want to use LECA, this is it. The Spekboom I use can easily get root rot. This drains and breaths well. The trees are healthy. The best LECA for me.

    This is much easier and better than the large balls for hydroponics. I use this in all my bonsai and seedlings. Mixed with silica sand and peat it is unbeatable as bonsai medium! Great stuff yet again Terry!

    So far I've had a really fabulous experience with the Leca. I used it with acadama and pumice in a 1:1:1 ratio and my trees are thriving in it.

    I have used Leca previously and the results that I had were phenomenal. I prefer it to Akedama as it does not break down as quickly. Surprisingly it is more water retentive than it would seem and it is super light weight.
