General Soil Mix

Great soil mixture for various types of bonsai. My favourite for growing Portulacaria afra and Crassula ovata

I have used this for young plants and they are thriving in this medium. Comes neatly packaged and easy to store. I will definitely buy more and Ican highly recommend it.

I use this product on most of my bonsai trees, and the results have been excellent.

What I appreciate most is the balance — the drainage, aeration, and moisture retention all seem to be well thought out. It creates a stable growing environment without me having to constantly adjust or worry about overwatering.

I would definitely recommend. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of soil balance and gives your trees a strong, healthy start.

To preface, I am new to using the products from this site but not to gardening in general.

I'm using it in 3 different bonsai pots that I got from this website and the smallest of the lot stays far too wet for far too long, even with the most minimal watering. It's also extremely fine so it does not allow for very good air flow because it packs down so tightly.

Maybe I'm just using the wrong mix for the wrong tree, and I'd love to be wrong so I can find out what the correct soil for the specific tree is but this has been my experience so far.

I used this medium to repot 3 of my Hoya plants. The plants are doing well, just sorry I did not order a larger quantity! I certainly will order more in the near future.

I am a big fan of your General soil mix, and wanted to tell you about it. I get extremely good results with it. That is all I wanted to say! I just planted a big Trident maple over in you Pro mix. The Pro mix will have a hard time beating General mix.

I use this in most of my bonsai trees along with seagrow and bonsai boost. Needless to say that even the so called slow growers florish in this mix. A good product for beginners as the draining qualities etc are all in a good balance

Love how light and airy it is, it retains it’s water quite nicely unfortunately I cannot give a 100% full review as my seedlings still need to start growing due to them having to redevelop roots and the seeds still need to sprout but so far no problem, also Terry was amazing in helping me buy the correct items and nothing unnecessary

The soil I used previously seemed to be water retardant rather than absorbing the water. The general soil mix from Bonsai Tree is absolutely great. My bonsai seems to florish more with this soil mix.
Ordering, paying for and collecting the soil mix was a breeze.

This has been a great product so far, being an experienced hobbyist in bonsai it takes away some of the uncertainty when starting out and offers the flexibility of adding other soil type depending on the needs of a particular tress species

This mix work great for almost any tree I use it for all my cuttings as well. Drainage perfect for most Bonsais I have. Sometimes I mix it with the Professional mix for Mame Bonsai or I mix it with river-sand for Cacti. I highly recommend it.

I am very much new to all this and I had to re-pot a tree that was rather overdue and was growing in normal garden soil. I had to do some quite severe root thinning to get rid of all the clumps of clay and was very worried that the tree was not going to survive the "abuse". In the new medium I have had excellent root formation and the tree is doing well!!

I have just recently repotted a maple from German Peat into Bonsai General Soil Mix - its been 7 weeks and I can already see the difference in foliage.

Exceeded my expectation's, great quality and quick delivery. Ordered online from Durban on a Friday, and received it Monday. With this 2Lt bag, it should last several re-pottings when using a small (6" inch) container.
It is a well balanced mix as described.
